About the Chamber

A law chamber in Tinsukia, Assam

Led by Advocate Bishwajit Prasad, B.P. & Associates draws on more than three decades of experience in legal practice.

Overview

B.P. & Associates is a law chamber headquartered in Tinsukia, Assam. It is led by its Founder and Principal Advocate, Advocate Bishwajit Prasad, who completed his legal education at the Indian Law Society’s Law College, Pune, in 1992 and has practised law for more than thirty years.

The Chamber’s work encompasses litigation, dispute resolution, legal research and advisory counsel. Its practice directory sets out thirty areas of law in five groups: criminal and constitutional law; civil, property and personal law; corporate, commercial and financial law; dispute resolution and advisory work; and employment, regulatory and specialised matters.

Foundation in trial practice

The Chamber’s practice is founded in the trial courts, where facts are established, witnesses are examined and the record of a case is made. That experience informs the preparation of a matter at every subsequent stage, since an appeal, revision or writ petition rests upon the pleadings, evidence and orders that precede it.

The Chamber accordingly gives close attention to procedure: limitation, jurisdiction, the form of pleadings, the proper proof of documents and compliance with the rules of the court. These requirements frequently determine whether a matter is heard on its merits.

Approaching the Chamber

Enquiries may be made by telephone or email. An initial enquiry does not, by itself, establish an advocate–client relationship, and the Chamber may decline a matter, for instance where a conflict of interest exists or where the matter falls outside its practice.

Where the Chamber agrees to act, the scope of the engagement is discussed and settled at the outset. We ask that confidential documents are not shared until that has been done.
